NEW - Zagat Survey 2005
You “can’t top TOPPER’S,” exclaim enthusiasts of the “world” class “dining experience” offered at The Wauwinet Inn: after taking a “cocktail cruise over” to its “perch on a remote tip of the island,” you’ll bask in a “beautiful setting” while reveling in the “adventurous,” artfully presented new American cuisine “extraordinaire” and “extensive wine list.” Equally “amazing” to witness is the “subtlety of ever-present but unobtrusive service.” Scores: Food 27/Décor 28/Service 27

Relais & Châteaux
The Wauwinet is a member of the prestigious association of Relais & Châteaux, a distinction that earns its members recognition worldwide for offering an idyllic blend of extraordinary service, superior food, gracious comfort and delightful surroundings.

Consistently ranked among the world's best hotel groups, Relais & Châteaux maintains its reputation for excellence with a stringent selection process, combined with periodic anonymous inspections of current members.

A sense of the exceptional and an emphasis on fine cuisine distinguish Relais & Châteaux members from other luxury hotel groups.

Today the Relais & Châteaux collection includes 460 independently-owned establishments in 50 countries. The Wauwinet is the only such inn on Nantucket. Like all Relais & Châteaux properties, ours operates under the charter of the "5 Cs": Courtesy, Charm, Character, Calm and Cuisine.

Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report - July 2003
"Wauwinet is one of the best hotels and guest houses on Nantucket. Nestled in an incomparable seaside setting next to a nature reserve, The Wauwinet represents the island's most exclusive lodging.

An intimate and charmingly evocative haven, the gorgeously restored turn-of-the-century property sits on a narrow scenic peninsula between a protected bay and the dune-lined shores of the open Atlantic, where breakers surge onto a long and gloriously unspoiled beach.

Weathered gray shingles and a beckoning wicker-chaired porch frame the classic rambling exterior, which gives way to an equally pleasing traditional interior enhanced by well-chosen antique furnishings, chintz-covered sofas and an eclectic array of prints, watercolors and paintings. For many, the hotel's piece-de-resistance is its renowned gourmet restaurant TOPPER'S, offering splendid tasting menus and an award-winning wine list featuring 900 vintages."

2004 Grand Awards
To be considered, properties must be relatively intimate in size, located in peaceful and scenically pleasing surroundings. Properties are then judged on all- around comfort, non-commercial character, personal service, cleanliness, design, upkeep of décor. The staffs are judged on efficiency, friendliness, attentiveness; and food is judged on ingredients, inspiration and presentation; grounds on overall appearance and maintenance, etc. The Wauwinet is 1 of 8 US properties (included are White Barn Inn and Stonover Farm in Lenox in New England)

This luxurious and wonderfully evocative island haven nestles on a scenic peninsula between a beach-rimmed bay and the dune-lined shores of the open Atlantic. An inviting wicker-chaired porch frames its classic rambling exterior, which gives way to an equally pleasing traditional fireplaced lounge, 35 well-appointed lodgings and renowned Topper's restaurant, all enhanced by an attentive staff. Leisure activities include tennis, biking, sailing, surfcasting, nature walks and bay cruises. Room rates vary with demand and the season, so it's best to contact the hotel directly.
